Explaining EAL Courses

English as an Additional Language courses, commonly known as EAL, are designed for students who want to develop general English language, literacy skills, and knowledge to participate effectively in the Australian community. EAL courses aim to further develop the academic language skills needed to transition into further mainstream study in Australia.

Completing a Certificate III in EAL will further develop your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. You will also develop strategies for learning and academic skills in:

  • Undertaking research
  • Writing essays
  • Group work
  • Giving oral presentations

Completing a Certificate IV in EAL will provide further information about the Australian workplace, participating in complex conversations, effective communication, delivering and understanding oral presentations, reading and writing for employment, and further preparing you for further study.

Completion of EAL programs will enable you to be more confident communicating in a wide range of formal, and informal situations in social and community life, as well as in some workplace situations.
